Importing from SWAR and TRF
If your tournament already exists in another program, you don't have to re-enter it: Chesstide can import a complete tournament — settings, players, rounds and results — from a SWAR file or a FIDE TRF file.
Where to find the import buttons
Go to My Tournaments. In the page header, next to the create button, you'll find Import SWAR and Import TRF. Click one, choose your file, and the import starts immediately — there is no preview step. You must be signed in.
Importing a SWAR file
Choose a .swar file (maximum 10 MB). Chesstide imports:
- Tournament settings: name, dates, city, number of rounds, pairing system, rating system, tie-breaks, and bye/absence configuration.
- Players and their registrations. Players are matched to existing Chesstide profiles by FIDE ID first, then by Belgian federation ID, then by name and date of birth — so no duplicate player profiles are created.
- All rounds with their pairings and results, including byes. Rounds that already have results are marked complete; upcoming rounds stay in draft.
The imported tournament is created as a draft: nothing is public until you publish it.
Important: A few SWAR settings have no exact equivalent in Chesstide. The tournament country defaults to Belgium, some tie-breaks are mapped to their closest match, and all games are imported as rated. Review the Configuration tab after importing.
Importing a TRF file
Choose a .trf or .txt file in the FIDE TRF format (maximum 10 MB). Both individual and team tournament files are supported — team files recreate the teams, their rosters and board results.
Besides settings, players, rounds and results, the TRF import also restores chief and deputy arbiters (as tournament staff), forbidden-pairing groups, tie-break configuration, and Baku acceleration.
Important: Some TRF features are simplified on import: only Baku acceleration can be reconstructed (other acceleration schemes are skipped with a warning), and forbidden pairings limited to specific rounds are applied to all rounds instead. Warnings are shown after the import completes.
After the import
The new tournament appears in My Tournaments in draft status. Check the Configuration tab, the player list and the imported results, then publish when you're happy.
If anything in the file couldn't be interpreted (an unknown opponent reference, an inconsistent result code…), the import still completes where possible and lists warnings so you can fix the affected games manually.
Tip: Importing the same file twice creates a second, separate tournament — imports never overwrite an existing one. Delete the duplicate if you imported by mistake.
