Registering for a tournament

Individual tournaments are entered with the Register Player button on the tournament page. You'll need a Chesstide account (create one takes a minute), and registration must still be open.

Who are you registering?

The registration page starts with the player finder:

  • My Players — your saved players, one click (see Your account). This is how parents register children and club secretaries register members: you can register any player, not just yourself.
  • Search Players — by name (and optionally date of birth), searching the national federation and FIDE databases plus existing Chesstide profiles.
  • Lookup by Federation ID — fastest when you know the FIDE or federation ID.
  • Add manually — for a player who exists in no database yet.

Tip: Always search the FIDE and national databases before adding manually — using the official record keeps ratings and IDs correct, and avoids duplicate profiles.

Eligibility and fee preview

The selected player card immediately shows any problem — age or rating outside the tournament's restrictions blocks the registration. If there's an entry fee, a live Entry fee preview shows exactly what this player pays, with discounts, title exemptions and any late surcharge applied.

Submitting

Add an optional note for the organizer and click Complete Registration. Your entry lands as Pending until the organizer confirms it. If the tournament is full, the button reads Join waiting list instead — you're queued and promoted automatically when a spot opens.

The confirmation page recaps your registration, its status, and the payment instructions if a fee is due — see Paying your entry fee.

Already registered?

If the player is already in the tournament, Chesstide tells you and points to the existing registration instead of creating a duplicate. Manage everything afterwards from My Registrations.
