Team tournaments
In a team tournament, teams meet in matches played over several boards. This article covers managing teams in the cockpit; pairing and results specifics are in Generating pairings and Entering results.
Team basics
You choose Team as the participation mode when creating the tournament, along with three key numbers: minimum and maximum players per team (the roster size) and Players per match (how many boards actually play). A roster larger than the board count gives you reserves.
Important: The participation mode cannot be switched between individual and team once registrations exist.
Rosters and board order
Teams are managed in the Players tab. Each team shows its roster in board order — board 1 is the strongest. Drag players to reorder boards, edit the team name, and edit per-player details from each row.
Players can be moved or swapped between teams if a club shuffles its lineups before the start.
Reserves and absences
Per team member you can record two different things:
- Bench rounds — the player sits out that round while the team plays with its reserves.
- Absent rounds — the player is completely unavailable that round.
The board lineup for each match is derived from the roster order minus benched and absent players. After changing a lineup, use Regenerate boards on the match — it refreshes the empty boards from the current lineup while keeping any results already entered.
Team check-in
Check-in happens per player, from each team's roster. A team counts as ready when enough of its players are checked in to fill its boards. The printable Check-in Sheet lists every team with its boards for a paper check-in at the venue.
Match scoring
A match score is the sum of its board results (e.g. 2½–1½ over four boards). The standings can rank teams by Match Points (2/1/0 per match won/drawn/lost) or by total Game Points — choose this in the Configuration tab under team scoring, along with the board tie-breaks.
Tip: Under-strength teams are handled automatically: unoccupied boards are recorded correctly for standings and FIDE reporting — but a team that can't fill half its boards is usually better withdrawn for the round.
